How Did QQ Come To Be?
Well, Once Upon a Time...

In January 1983, while a senior in high school, Mark Malis took his first computer class. It was during this time that Time Magazine named “The Computer” as the “Person of the Year”. Mark was so fascinated by computers that, after taking just one computer class in his first semester at the University of Florida, he chose Computer Engineering as his major.

Today, QQ Solutions is the 3rd largest provider of insurance agency management software nationwide with over 4,600 insurance agency customers and over 22,000 users.”

For his senior class project, Mark developed AutoFile, an agency management system for his father Gerry’s auto insurance agency. The product was so good that Gerry sold it and Mark supported it while he was still in college. The program was written on a “laptop” computer that weighed more than 20 pounds. The source code was stored on 5.25” floppy disks.

After college, Mark and his dad continued selling the agency management system while Mark developed QuickQuote, a comparative auto rater. In those early days, Mark would code during the day and make copies of floppy disks at night. Frequently, he would have to deliver hundreds of floppy disks to the post office at 3:00am to get the rating updates to the agents on time.

Later, both QuickQuote and AutoFile were transitioned from DOS to Windows, and, more advanced features were added. AutoFile was renamed QuickFile, adding QuickBooks integration and document scanning, while QuickQuote added bridging and binding.

In 2003, Gerry Malis retired to spend more time with his wife Elaine and to try to break 100 in golf.

In 2009, the company was rebranded and renamed QQ Solutions to better reflect the company’s mission to provide innovative technology solutions to insurance agencies nationwide. Also in that year, QQ Solutions released the first versions of QQ Evolution and QQ WebRater.

Today, QQ Solutions is the 3rd largest provider of insurance agency management software nationwide, with over 4,600 insurance agency customers and over 22,000 users (see more facts & figures). And, the company is also a leading provider of comparative auto insurance rating systems in Florida and Texas.

In October 2011, South Florida Business Journal named QQ Solutions as one of the 25 fastest-growing technology companies in South Florida.
